Beyond the Cappuccino Rose: A Rich Blend of Coffee-Inspired Blooms

Written by Yvonne Ashton | November 8, 2024

Did you know there's a whole world of roses inspired by your morning cappuccino? On National Cappuccino Day, I had the pleasure of sitting down with floral expert David Dahlson to explore an enchanting collection of roses that mirror the warm, inviting tones of our favorite coffee drinks. From the original Cappuccino rose, first imported from Holland fifteen years ago, to innovative varieties like the paper bag-cultivated Mocha rose, these blooms are transforming the landscape of modern floral design. Join us as we dive into this delightful fusion of coffee culture and floriculture, where every petal tells a story of innovation, craftsmanship, and the endless possibilities that bloom when creativity meets nature.

David touches on the availability and demand for these roses. "In the fall, these colors are super hot, with a strong demand worldwide," he explains. He advises placing orders two to three weeks in advance to ensure availability, especially for popular varieties like Moab, Mocha, and Café Latte. He also recommends considering carnations for their versatility and cost-effectiveness in floral arrangements. "Buy them 10 days ahead and let them open all the way. You can slot them in with garden roses in a pavé design, and I swear no one will know," he suggests, highlighting the practical aspects of using carnations as a budget-friendly option. Additionally, David mentions the appeal of tinted tulips and other seasonal blooms that can complement the coffee-themed roses. "Tulips, especially the double soft caramel variety, are a great way to incorporate those coffee tones into your designs during this time of year," he points out.

Thank you, David, for sharing your expertise and passion for these beautiful blooms. And to everyone watching, Happy National Cappuccino Day! May your day be as rich and flavorful as the roses we've explored today. Join us next time for more floral insights and celebrations. Cheers!
