Alstroemeria is an ancient flower, originally from Peru, Chile, and Brazil. Since its discovery by Europeans in the 18th century, it has gone through many rounds of hybridization, to draw out desirable characteristics, particularly that of longevity. Unfortunately, along the way, a lot of the charm of this flower has been lost.
Modern hybrids of Alstroemeria do not lack long vase life, but most recent cultivars in commercial production have their blooms smothered by a collar of leaves that surround the flowers. In the wild, the species had exceptionally long stems with flowers floating far above the foliage, but centuries of hybridization have diminished this effect. Mayesh, with a view to introducing this flower to a new generation of floral professionals, has asked one of our partners to remove the collar of leaves, and the result provides a new perspective on this ancient flower.
Manicured Alstroemeria offers a delightful whimsical inflorescence comported on a corymb with 4 or 5 large blooms on long laterals. The aesthetic beauty is not marred by long weedy leaves that usually cloud the charm of the alstroemeria flower. The product we are offering is the top grade, Super Select, with strong robust stems and oversized blooms.
We sent out samples to 10 wedding and event designers and 10 flower shops. The reaction of the two groups was diametrically opposed, with most of the flower shops declaring it was nothing special, while the event designers were incredibly enthusiastic. Many of these designers declared that they never used Alstroemeria and looked upon it with disdain, but in this format were overwhelmingly enthusiastic about the product.
We urge you to try this new introduction from Mayesh and see if it stimulates your creative juices. Available weekly in White, and Light Pink, and all the other colors are available with two weeks' notice.
