For the second Masterclass of our 2019 Design Star workshop tour we headed to Austin, TX in August with the wonderful Shean Strong. Being a Masterclass, the workshop content focused on more advanced design and techniques and an in-depth dive into floral business. Experienced floral designers from all over joined us in Austin to get their hands dirty and learn from Shean! Read on to hear more about the work they created and get a peek at the beautiful images from the two-day event.
Day one we jumped right in, starting with light appetizers, refreshments and introductions. Gretchen of Design Master led a demonstration using the various products DM offers, showing the students how to use their sprays to change bloom colors and prolong blooms' vase life. Shean then did a centerpiece design tutorial, walking the students through his techniques and tips before the students worked on their own designs. To wrap up the evening Shean talked about his creative and business processes, followed by a Q&A.
On day two we jumped right back into designing, with Shean first demonstrating how he creates his beautiful bouquets. The students then put their new knowledge right to work, designing their own bouquets with personalized tips from Shean as they worked.
Next was a delicious lunch, catered by the venue itself, Barr Mansion. After lunch was installation time! Working with suspended Accent Decor baskets the students collaborated to create a lush, tropical inspired installation with the guidance of Shean. A professional model then modeled each students' bouquets on the mansion property and with the dreamy installation. And with that wrapped another successful Mayesh Design Star workshop!
