Twice named 'Designer of the Year' by the Illinois State Florists Association and Illinois Allied Florists, 2017 will mark John's 40th year working in the professional floral industry. He describes his style as "modern Flemish' as a result of being drawn to discovering and working with a wide scope of flowers, foliage, naturals and non-traditional materials such as salvaged materials, porcupine quills, horsehair, silk, mohair, angora and handmade paper.
John's work has appeared in Flower Fusion, the Japanese journal Florist, Town & Country, Elle Decor, Martha Stewart Weddings and most recently was the cover feature of the November 2016 issue of Florists' Review. He was also a featured designer in the book Entertaining for Business. His northern IL floral studio Twisted Stem bears the tag line 'Edgy & Elegant Floral Design', which describes their non-traditional style.
Their clients are spread across the upper midwest and occasionally internationally. Weddings they produce can be as modest as $500, or as grand as in 2016 when John and staff produced a week of 3 parties and 1 wedding in Dubai with a flower cost in excess of $5 million.
