As the fall season rolls in each year, my team is busy searching for our next Mayesh Design Star. And friends, you know this is a nail biting experience. We have no idea who is going to be interested in entering and often the entries all come in right before the deadline. This year my team had 22 amazing designers to review and from there we narrowed it down to our top 3 candidates. We interviewed all three designers, all of whom bring something completely different to the table and I believe you would have loved each and every one. However, our team was looking for a Design Star who stood out a bit more and who wants to shake up our world.
With that said, it is my honor and pleasure to introduce you to our 2020 Mayesh Design Star, Anthony Maslo!! Anthony is the co-owner of The Boy Who Cried Flowers which is based in Los Angeles and he caught our eye way before the contest started because he is colorful - both personally and professionally. His signature pink hair is hard to miss, but it is his use of color in his designs that we love the most in addition to that fact that his business perspective is much different than our past Design Stars. Anthony's business involves weddings and everyday flowers, but the majority of the focus is on events. Looking through The Boy Who Cried Flowers Instagram feed, you will see florals for Beauty Con, Arianna Huffington, Honest Beauty, and more.
Although, Anthony has only been in the floral industry for a few years, he has been brought into the prestigious FlowerSchool Los Angeles to teach floral design. He is highly experienced in education and is passionate about continuous learning. Anthony told us during his interview that he wants to be someone that helps create change in our industry and we are excited to be a part of that journey with him.
