Dahlias are typically available during the warmest months of the year and are very popular while they are in season. With their wide variety of shapes ranging from ball to standard to dinner plate, many designers have questions about their care and handling. The best way to prolong their vase life is to recut the stems and change the water often. When storing your dahlias in your cooler, try to keep them in a warmer area and away from drafts. When designing with dahlias, if you need a longer-lasting stems steer towards the smaller varieties. If you are designing for events, then the larger dinner plate varieties, like Cafe Au Lait, are a great fit.
