Mornings with Mayesh: Pilar Zuniga, a Sustainable Florist

Last month, we introduced our 3rd Mayesh Design Star of 2023, Pilar Zuniga of Gorgeous and Green and I’m very excited to share her live interview from earlier this week! She is a  sustainable & eco-friendly florist, an advocate & speaker Since 2008, she was name a 2023 Top 50 Wedding Florists in North America by Florists’ Review, and is a host for the Instagram page, @floristsofcolor. We chatted about what it takes to become a California Green certified business, how being a sustainable florist has evolved for Pilar over the last 15 years, large scale and wearable design mechanics, and so much more!

Below are the podcast, video replay, and show notes:

  • What is your philosophy towards sustainability within our industry?

  • Where do you hope to see the industry in the next 5 years?
    • future: container and structure sharing amongst florists? Would love to see more activity to make this easier. Lending libraries?

  • Your business is CA Green certified - what does that mean?

  • You’ve been working as a sustainable florist for 15 years. How have your sustainable practices evolved over the years?

  • In your first video, you talk about knowing what the flowers do once they are out of water. I love your tip about hanging certain flowers upside down - will you share more about that?
  • This month, you have 2 videos all about wearables. Can you talk about the main materials that you use as the design mechanic here?  Wire & moss
  • You mentioned using local flowers in your videos - do you have any advice for florists on working with their Mayesh reps?

  • Anything new coming up?
