Mayesh Design Star Santa Barbara Workshop Recap

In August, our Mayesh Design Star tour brought us to sunny Santa Barbara, and Narrative Loft was the perfect eclectic venue for this workshop.

DAY ONE

Following the format of the previous workshops, day one consisted of networking, mood boarding and of course, delicious appetizers and wine. To kick off the night, Ryan O'Neill of Curate and Brad Beck of Design Master presented to the students about their respective products. Following, our 2018 Mayesh Design Star, Kaylee of Flourish by Kay, led the students in a brand identifying and mood boarding activity. Students were tasked with creating mood boards that represented themselves and their brands, then everyone went around the room and wrote down one word that represented each mood board. With these words, students were able to narrow the list down to five to articulate their personal brand and design style.

DAY TWO

After networking and mood boarding the previous evening, the next morning Kaylee, Jamie and the students jumped right into designing. Kaylee began by showing how to create the skeleton of a floating installation and how to fill in with florals. Then as a class, they completed the hanging installation as well as a floral trellis.

After the group installation, Kaylee demonstrated how she creates her centerpieces while walking the students through her process. The students then designed their own centerpieces in beautiful Accent Decor vessels.
